Es ist über ein halbes Jahr her, und kürzlich kam bei mir die DVD des Filmes an, der jetzt auch in den USA läuft und anscheinend einen ähnlichen Eindruck auf die Menschen dort hinterläßt. Hier ist ein sehr gutes Interview mit (dem Düsseldorfer!) Philip Groening auf Englisch zu lesen.
Nobody goes to a monastery to become a specialist in monasteries—you go to a monastery to become yourself. A film about a monastery that is really about a monastery is a film where you come out of the film and you know a little bit more about yourself but you know nothing about a monasteries because you have been in a monastery. If you want know about monasteries, go to a good historian.
Und am Schluß wird Groening exzellent (das ganze ist sehr lesenswert), auch wenn diese Einschätzung von mir manchen vielleicht verwundern wird:
The way you know that a religion is your religion is that you have problems with it. If you don’t have problems with it, it’s not your religion.
